Sometimes, a badly damaged or decayed tooth needs to be safely extracted in our office in order to preserve the health of your remaining teeth.
The Tooth Extraction Process
If a tooth is broken or decayed, a crown, filling, or a root canal may be able to repair it. However, sometimes the damage is too great for the tooth to be saved. Other times, the tooth may be badly decayed and threaten the health of your surrounding teeth. Oral surgeons can extract a tooth to preserve the health of your remaining teeth and can also offer tooth replacement options to fill in the space, such as a dental implant.
When you visit North Dakota Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center, Dr. Glosenger may take 3D imaging of your mouth to evaluate the position and state of your teeth. He will discuss anesthesia options with you during your consultation visit and help you determine the right choice for your procedure. We are also happy to discuss tooth replacement options to help restore your smile after a tooth is removed.
Reasons for Needing a Tooth Removed
There are many reasons why you may need to have a tooth removed by an oral surgeon:
Baby teeth don’t fall out in time for adult teeth to grow in
You have a compromised immune system and are at an increased risk for infection from a cavity or gum disease
As a part of orthodontic treatment
Dental overcrowding
A tooth becomes loose from periodontal, or gum, disease
Tooth decay has entered the tooth’s nerves and blood vessels
Please contact your dentist for evaluation. If your dentist determines that your tooth needs to be removed, they may refer you to North Dakota Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center. You can call our office at (701) 852-3421 to schedule an appointment. Our staff is happy to answer any questions, and we look forward to caring for you.
